Privacy Policy

Last updated September 17, 2026

This policy explains what information Echoes (“Echoes,” “we,” “us”) collects when you use our website and app, how we use it, and the choices you have. The short version: your photos and stories belong to you, they are private by default, and we do not sell your personal information.

Information we collect

Information you give us

  • Account information — your name and email address when you sign in.
  • Photos you upload and any hint or note you add to them.
  • Content we generate for you — story text, titles, tags, and narration audio.
  • Voice recordings — audio you record, or that someone you invite records, reading a story or telling it in their own words, along with the speaker’s name and their confirmation that they agree to share it.
  • Messages you send us through the contact form.
  • Payment information — handled by our payment processor, Stripe. We never see or store your full card number; we receive a customer ID, subscription status, and plan.

Information collected automatically

  • Basic usage data, such as pages viewed and features used, to keep the service working and improve it.
  • Technical data such as browser type, device, and approximate location derived from IP address.
  • Cookies or similar storage needed to keep you signed in.

How we use your information

  • To create, store, and play your Echoes, and to provide features you ask for (retelling, voices, layers, sharing).
  • To run your account, process payments, and enforce plan limits.
  • To respond to your messages and send important service notices.
  • To protect the service against abuse, fraud, and security threats.
  • To understand, in aggregate, how the product is used so we can improve it.

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use your photos for advertising.

How your photos are processed

To write a story, your photo and hint are sent to AI model providers that our hosting platform uses to describe images and generate text. The story text is sent to ElevenLabs to produce the narration audio. These providers process the content on our behalf to deliver the feature.

Service providers we rely on

  • Base44 — application hosting, database, file storage, sign-in, and access to AI models.
  • ElevenLabs — text-to-speech narration.
  • Stripe — subscription billing and payments.

We may also disclose information if required by law, or to protect the rights and safety of our users and others.

Storage and security

  • Photos uploaded to Echoes are kept in private storage and shown to you through short-lived links.
  • Voice recordings are kept in private storage. We do not use them to create synthetic or cloned voices. If we ever offer AI narration in your own voice, it will be a separate feature that requires your explicit opt-in.
  • Your Echoes are only readable by your account. Access rules are enforced on our servers.
  • Narration audio files are stored at unlisted web addresses so they can play in your browser; anyone holding the exact address could play the file.
  • No system is perfectly secure, but we work to protect your information with industry-standard measures.

Sharing you control

If you turn on a listen link for an Echo, anyone with that link can see the photo, title, and story and hear the narration and family voice recordings, without an account. If you create a recording invite link, anyone with that link can see the photo and story and leave a recording. Turning the link off disables it immediately. Story cards you download are files you control.

Keeping and deleting your data

We keep your content while your account is active. You can delete any Echo at any time from the app, which also removes its layers, chains, and share link. To delete your entire account and associated files, send a “Privacy or data deletion request” through our contact page from the email on your account, and we will complete it within 30 days.

Your choices and rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, download, or delete your personal information, or to object to certain processing. Contact us to make a request; we will not discriminate against you for exercising these rights.

Photos and voices of other people

Please only upload photos you have the right to use, and be thoughtful about photos of other people — especially before sharing them. When you invite someone to record, they see the photo and story and must agree before their recording is saved. Anyone who recorded through an invite can ask us to delete their recording through the contact page.

Children

Echoes is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has given us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. If we make significant changes, we will notify you in the app or by email before they take effect.
